J.W. Madison enjoyed working on bicycles at his home at Sixth and Kentucky in the early 1930s. He continued his hobby after the family moved to Fifth and Monroe in 1943.

The hobby became a business with a move to the Eighth and Jefferson area in 1947. At that time, Carl (Odie) Madison joined his father in what was then named the Madison Bicycle Shop.

The father-son beginning was changed when J.W. retired in 1964. At the time, Odie was a Boy Scoutmaster for Troop 28, Union Methodist Church, when the father of one of his scouts passed away. In a benevolent action, Odie invited the scout, Greg Davis, then in junior high school, to come and help around the shop.

Young Greg found his spot. At his graduation from Quincy College, Greg became a full partner, and Madison-Davis Bicycle Shop was formed. From a humble beginning of only repairing bicycles to first selling new bikes in 1967, there has been a seachange in the bicycle industry.

Over the years, we have sold approximately 14 different brands of bikes with names like Columbia, Raleigh, GT/Dyno, Schwinn, Red Line, Diamondback and Trek on the sales floor.

But one thing has never changed: the support of family cycling with personal attention and fair dealings.

We invite you to visit us at our shop at 912 South Eighth Street in Quincy to view our collection of bicycles covering bike history from the gay ‘90s to the Sting Ray, Krate and Chopper periods.
